NORTH CAROLINA — Two students are facing charges after a gun was found Tuesday afternoon at Jordan High School in Durham, according to the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the school received a tip around 2:30 p.m. about a student possibly having a firearm on campus. Jordan High School was then placed on lockdown while deputies and school resource officers searched for the weapon.
Authorities said the firearm was eventually located, and investigators determined there was no further threat to the public. The lockdown was lifted around 4 p.m.
The sheriff’s office said juvenile petitions are being sought against two students on charges of possession of a firearm on school property.
Under North Carolina law, a student found in possession of a firearm on school grounds must be suspended for 365 days.
The incident comes just days after another lockdown at the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability in Durham following reports of a possible weapon on campus. Officials later said no weapon was found in that case.
No injuries were reported at Jordan High School, and the investigation remains ongoing.
