Two people dead following vehicle crash in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — Two people were killed and two others were injured Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Mount Airy, according to officials.

The crash happened around 1:40 p.m. at the intersection of North Main Street and West Oakdale Street, according to Mount Airy Police.

Surry County EMS said two people were pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional patients were transported to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Police said one of the vehicles involved caught fire after the crash.

Authorities have not released the identities of those involved, and details about what led to the crash have not been made public.

The investigation remains ongoing.
