NORTH CAROLINA — Two men are facing charges in connection with an armed robbery that investigators say stemmed from an alleged drug deal in Union County.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported armed robbery near Parkwood High School in Monroe. The victim told authorities he was robbed at gunpoint while attempting to purchase marijuana vape products.

Investigators identified Jayden Watts and Courtney Massey Jr. as suspects and obtained warrants for their arrests. Authorities said multiple agencies, including the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, worked to locate Watts at a residence in Monroe and conducted surveillance at the home.

Officials said Watts was arrested after deputies stopped a vehicle leaving the residence. Massey was later arrested in Charlotte and is being held in the Union County jail.

Both suspects were denied bond. No additional details have been released.

“This case highlights the importance of working together as a team and the continued commitment to removing violent offenders from the community,” Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey said in a statement.

The investigation remains ongoing.
