INDIANA — Two men were arrested early Sunday after police said they fired guns in a residential neighborhood on the near northwest side of Indianapolis.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, an officer with the Northwest District was investigating a disturbance call just before 1:30 a.m. when gunshots were heard near the 600 block of West 30th Street.
Police said officers located 35-year-old Verdale Williams Jr. and 26-year-old Alante King standing next to a vehicle. Investigators alleged King was holding a pistol-caliber carbine at the time.
Authorities said both men were detained without incident while officers investigated the shooting.
According to police, investigators learned Williams and King had recently purchased a handgun and a pistol-caliber carbine. Officials said both men later admitted to firing multiple rounds in the neighborhood.
Police recovered firearms, ammunition and numerous shell casings from the scene, according to the department.
Williams and King were each arrested on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office is expected to make the final charging decision.
