SOUTH CAROLINA — The Charleston Police Department has arrested two men on drug trafficking charges following an investigation into alleged drug activity downtown.
Police said detectives with the Special Investigations Unit began investigating after receiving complaints from residents and community members about a home on Poplar Street that was allegedly being used to sell drugs.
Authorities identified and arrested the suspects involved in the investigation.
Tor Akil Gregory, 35, of North Charleston, was charged with two counts of trafficking cocaine base. Willie D. Morris, 45, of Charleston, was charged with one count of trafficking cocaine base, according to police.
Police Chief Chito Walker said the arrests were the result of cooperation between community members and law enforcement.
“Cases like this reflect exactly what public safety depends on: residents who care enough about their neighborhoods to speak up, and officers who are prepared to act,” Walker said in a statement.
Gregory and Morris are being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
The investigation remains ongoing.
