Two people arrested following drug bust in Ohio

OHIO — Two people were arrested Wednesday night after deputies discovered methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl during a traffic stop in Scioto County, according to Sheriff David Thoroughman.

Deputies said the stop happened around 11:12 p.m. on U.S. 52 near Cole Avenue after records showed the registered owner of a black Chevrolet had outstanding arrest warrants.

After speaking with the people inside the vehicle, deputies determined the registered owner was not present. However, authorities said a male passenger had an active warrant through the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies said they found a plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine on the passenger side and a silver container near the driver’s seat holding multiple small baggies filled with a white powdery substance.

According to investigators, the male passenger admitted the narcotics belonged to him and told deputies he had purchased a half-pound of methamphetamine. Deputies said the man also directed them to a black box in the back seat containing suspected crack cocaine and fentanyl.

Authorities seized $1,264 in cash from the driver, which deputies believe may be proceeds from drug trafficking.

Deputies said the total weight of the narcotics recovered was 238 grams, with an estimated street value of about $9,000.

Corey D. Bertram, 31, of Garrison, Kentucky, was charged with aggravated possession of drugs, aggravated trafficking in drugs and a secondary count of aggravated possession of drugs.

Sara M. Lansing, 29, of Portsmouth, Ohio, was charged with aggravated trafficking in drugs and tampering with evidence.

Both suspects were arraigned Thursday in Portsmouth Municipal Court.
