FLORIDA — Two Holmes County schools were placed on lockdown Friday morning after reports of gunshots heard outside campus grounds, according to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the lockdown affected Holmes County High School and Bonifay K-8 School. Officials later announced the lockdown had been lifted.
The sheriff’s office said all students and staff members were safe and that the reported gunshots were heard outside the school area. Deputies responded to the scene and began investigating the incident.
During the lockdown, officials urged parents not to attempt to pick up their children from the schools while law enforcement secured the area.
In a statement shared on social media, the sheriff’s office said personnel were on scene at the schools and emphasized that “everyone is safe.”
Authorities have not released additional details about the source of the gunshots or whether any suspects were identified.
The investigation remains ongoing.
