PENNSYLVANIA — The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Washington County during the severe storms that swept through Western Pennsylvania over the weekend.

According to officials, the tornado caused damage in southeast Ellsworth. As of Monday morning, the National Weather Service had not released information on the tornado’s strength or classification.

Survey teams are continuing to assess storm damage across the region. The first area examined stretched from Ellsworth through south-central Westmoreland County.

Additional damage surveys are underway in two other locations, including areas south of the Washington County Airport and just east of Connellsville.

The surveys follow a round of intense storms that moved through Western Pennsylvania on Saturday, bringing strong winds and widespread damage. The storms left tens of thousands of residents without power across multiple counties.

Officials are expected to release additional information once damage assessments are completed and the tornado’s rating has been determined.
