Three people dead following vehicle crash on I-88 in Illinois

ILLINOIS — Three people were killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 88 in Aurora early Sunday morning, according to Illinois State Police.

The crash happened just after 4 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-88 near milepost 112.25.

State police said a driver traveling alone in a vehicle was going the wrong way on the interstate when the vehicle collided head-on with another car carrying two people who were traveling in the correct direction.

All three people involved in the crash were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

All lanes of I-88 were temporarily closed following the crash but have since reopened.

Illinois State Police continue to investigate the incident.
