FLORIDA — Three people were killed and several others injured in a multi-vehicle crash Monday morning in the DeLeon Springs area, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on State Road 40 near Lake Winona Road and involved at least two sport utility vehicles. Investigators said a 2023 Honda CR-V traveling eastbound crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a 2021 Ford Expedition.

All three occupants of the Honda CR-V were pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

Four people inside the Ford Expedition were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries. The extent of those injuries has not been released.

Authorities said the roadway was closed in both directions as crews responded to the scene and began their investigation.

Troopers are still working to confirm the identities of those involved and determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
