NORTH CAROLINA — Thousands of residents across North Carolina are currently without electricity Saturday morning, according to the latest data from PowerOutage.us.

As of the most recent update, about 4,619 homes and businesses are without power statewide, representing roughly 0.08% of the nearly 5.9 million customers tracked. The state ranks third in the nation for total outages and fifth for the percentage of customers affected.

The vast majority of outages are concentrated in Cumberland County, where more than 4,000 customers are currently without service.

Other counties reporting outages include Mecklenburg County with nearly 300 customers affected, Durham County with more than 100, and smaller numbers reported in Carteret, Forsyth, Columbus, Bladen, and Gaston counties.

Among utility providers, Fayetteville Public Works is reporting the largest number of customers without power, accounting for most of the outages in Cumberland County. Duke Energy and several electric cooperatives are also reporting scattered outages across the state.

Officials have not identified a single cause for the outages, which appear to be concentrated but not statewide. Crews are continuing restoration efforts, and residents are encouraged to check with their local utility providers for updates on service restoration.
