
KANSAS — More than 10,000 utility customers across Kansas are without electricity Thursday morning as outages continue to affect communities across the state.
According to PowerOutage.us, 10,129 customers are currently without power, impacting about 0.72% of the nearly 1.4 million customers tracked statewide.
Saline County is reporting the largest number of outages, with 4,574 customers without service. Johnson County follows with 2,516 outages, while Ottawa County has 886 customers without power and Shawnee County is reporting 885 outages. Additional outages are being reported in Lincoln County, Wyandotte County, Riley County and Harvey County.
By percentage, Ottawa County is among the hardest-hit areas, with 31.89% of tracked customers without electricity. Lincoln County is reporting 16.41% of customers without power, while Saline County has 14.88% of customers affected.
Evergy is reporting the vast majority of outages in the state, with 9,820 customers without service. The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities is reporting 266 outages, while smaller electric cooperatives are reporting scattered outages in their service territories.
Kansas currently ranks sixth in the nation for both the total number of power outages and the percentage of customers affected, according to the outage tracking website.
Utility crews continue working to restore service. Residents are encouraged to report outages to their provider and avoid downed power lines, which should always be considered energized and dangerous.
