
OHIO — A suspect was hospitalized after being shot by police late Friday night following an exchange of gunfire with officers in Middletown, according to authorities.
A spokesperson for the Middletown Police Department said the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Charles Street. Officers had been searching for the individual in connection with a weapons violation reported the previous day.
Police said the suspect may have brandished a firearm when officers attempted to make contact. During the encounter, the suspect allegedly fired at officers, prompting them to return fire. The suspect was struck during the exchange.
No officers were injured in the incident, though at least one police vehicle was damaged by gunfire, officials said.
The suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released the individual’s identity or provided an update on their condition.
The incident remains under investigation.
