NORTH CAROLINA — Parts of eastern North Carolina are under a slight risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms on Saturday, while much of the rest of the state is included in a marginal risk (Level 1 of 5), according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center.

The slight risk covers portions of eastern North Carolina, including areas near the Outer Banks and the coastal plain, where scattered severe thunderstorms are possible. The remainder of much of the state falls under a marginal risk, where isolated severe storms may develop.

SPC Day 1 Outlook

Forecasters say the strongest storms could produce damaging wind gusts, large hail and frequent lightning. Heavy rainfall is also possible in some locations, which could lead to localized flooding.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop during the afternoon and evening hours as warm, humid conditions remain in place across the region.

Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared to seek shelter if severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings are issued for their area. The Storm Prediction Center will continue updating its outlooks as conditions evolve.
