
OHIO — A man is missing after reportedly jumping into the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland early Tuesday morning, prompting a multi-agency search.
According to the Cleveland Fire Department, the incident was reported around 2:45 a.m. after the man attempted to swim across the river from Riverbed to Merwin near the Flat Iron.
Witnesses told authorities the man disappeared beneath the surface approximately 20 feet from the river’s edge.
Cleveland firefighters, Cleveland police officers and members of the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene. Cleveland Fire Boat Marine 21 also deployed a diver to search the area where the man was last seen.
Despite the search efforts, crews were unable to locate the man.
The search was suspended around 4:30 a.m. Officials said they will determine later Tuesday morning whether recovery operations will resume.
