LOUISIANA — A teenager was taken into custody Tuesday morning after an adult was critically injured near a school campus in Tangipahoa Parish, according to authorities.
Officials said the incident happened around 7:39 a.m. outside the Tangipahoa Alternative Programs campus along Crystal Street.
A school resource officer with Hammond Police was alerted that a 13-year-old boy refused to exit a vehicle and enter the school. Officers spoke with the teen and an adult who was with him, and the adult decided to take the boy home.
As the vehicle began leaving the area, the school resource officer reported hearing what sounded like gunshots and saw the teenager approaching with a firearm.
The teen was taken into custody shortly after. The adult who was with him was hospitalized with critical injuries.
The school was placed on a full lockdown following the incident. As of late Tuesday morning, the lockdown remained in place.
The investigation remains ongoing.
