OHIO — A person is in life-threatening condition following a hit-and-run crash involving an electric bicycle in downtown Columbus early Wednesday morning.
According to authorities, the crash happened at the intersection of South High Street and Mound Street.
Investigators said the rider was traveling northbound on South High Street and entered the intersection on a green traffic signal. At the same time, a white 2016 Chrysler 300 was traveling westbound on East Mound Street approaching South High Street.
Police said the Chrysler drove between two westbound vehicles — one that was stopped at a red light and another that was slowing for the signal — before entering the intersection.
The vehicle then struck the electric bicycle, causing the rider to be thrown from the bike and land near the corner of the intersection. Authorities said the Chrysler continued westbound on West Mound Street without stopping.
The injured rider was transported to Grant Medical Center and was reported to be in life-threatening condition.
The Columbus Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene and has opened an investigation into the crash.
No additional information about the driver or vehicle has been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
