
MISSISSIPPI — One person was injured Monday morning after a Rankin County school bus collided with an 18-wheeler on Highway 49, according to authorities.
The crash happened around 6:43 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 49 and Eagle Post Road.
Officials said there were no students on the Rankin County School District bus at the time of the collision. Florence Police Chief Brad Burns said the bus driver had just begun the route when the crash occurred.
The bus driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries. No additional injuries were reported.
Emergency crews responded to the scene along with the Florence Police Department and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the right southbound lane of Highway 49 at Eagle Post Road was blocked following the crash.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Florence Police Department.
