OHIO — A 16-year-old male is in critical condition after an attempted carjacking turned into a shooting late Saturday night on the city’s east side, according to Cleveland EMS.
The incident occurred around 11:22 p.m. in the 3800 block of East 131st Street. Police responded after ShotSpotter alerts detected more than 50 rounds of gunfire in the area.
When officers arrived, they located the victim of the attempted carjacking and another individual involved in the incident. Investigators say four armed suspects attempted to steal the victim’s vehicle, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the victim and the suspects.
The suspects fled the scene, but shortly afterward, officers were called to the 4400 block of Lee Road for reports of a male suffering from gunshot wounds. Responding officers found a 16-year-old male with injuries to the abdomen and arm, along with the vehicle believed to have been used in the attempted carjacking.
Authorities later determined the injured teen was one of the suspects involved in the shooting. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Police recovered two firearms, both vehicles involved, and additional evidence at the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information has been released.
