One person found dead in motel parking lot in Florida, investigation underway

FLORIDA — A man was found dead after a reported shooting early Thursday morning in the parking lot of a Jacksonville motel, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police said officers responded around 3 a.m. to the Midtown Lodge on Philips Highway after motel managers reported hearing gunshots. When officers arrived, they found a man in the parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim, who investigators said appeared to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said at least three people have been detained as detectives continue working to determine what led to the shooting. Authorities said they are reviewing surveillance footage from the area as part of the investigation.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
