GEORGIA — A man wanted on outstanding felony warrants was taken into custody Sunday evening following a two-hour standoff at a residence in LaGrange, according to police.
Officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to a home in the 500 block of West Haralson Street at approximately 6:26 p.m. after receiving information that Deonald Johnson was at the property.
Authorities said Johnson was wanted on outstanding aggravated stalking warrants. A complainant told officers that Johnson had been instructed to leave the residence but repeatedly refused to do so.
When officers arrived, they established a perimeter around the home and ordered Johnson to exit with his hands raised. Police said Johnson refused the commands and claimed he was armed, telling officers they would have to enter the home to take him into custody.
Additional officers responded to assist as Johnson barricaded himself inside the residence. Investigators spent nearly two hours obtaining a search warrant for the property.
According to police, Johnson eventually exited the home at approximately 8:22 p.m. and surrendered without further incident. He was taken into custody, and no injuries were reported.
Authorities have not released additional details about the aggravated stalking case that led to the warrants. Police also have not confirmed whether a firearm was recovered from the home or whether Johnson will face any additional charges related to the barricade incident.
The information was provided by the LaGrange Police Department.
