TEXAS — A 16-year-old suspect was detained Friday night after an attempted traffic stop in downtown San Antonio led to a brief police chase, a crash, and an officer injury, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
The incident occurred around 9:39 p.m. near East Commerce and Navarro streets, where bike patrol officers attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations. Police said the driver fled, prompting a pursuit.
During the chase, one bicycle officer fell while attempting to follow the vehicle and sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Police said the suspect continued driving and ran a red light at North Flores and Pecan streets, where the vehicle collided with a black Chevrolet Blazer and a gray Toyota. The crash disabled the suspect’s vehicle.
The driver then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers nearby, police said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
