TEXAS — One person is dead and at least 10 others are injured following an active shooter situation Friday morning in Midland, Texas, according to local officials.

Authorities said the shooting occurred in the 4600 block of West Wall Street. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene and urged residents to avoid the area as the investigation and response continued.

According to Midland Mayor Lori Blong, there were at least 10 victims and one fatality. City officials told local media that a suspect was believed to be inside a building, though few additional details were immediately released.

Midland Police said officers heard gunfire coming from the building and deployed armored vehicles to the scene. The department said efforts to resolve the standoff safely were ongoing.

Midland Memorial Hospital, located near the scene, was placed on lockdown for several hours. Hospital officials said the main campus reopened around 11:45 a.m. Eastern time, but the emergency department remained under lockdown.

A family reunification center was established inside the chapel at Midland Memorial Hospital for relatives seeking information about loved ones.

The Texas Department of Transportation reported that Business 20 between Loop 250 and Midland Drive was closed because of the law enforcement response.

Authorities have not released information about a possible motive or the identities of those involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
