OHIO — A man has died and another person is facing multiple charges following a five-vehicle crash on Cleveland’s west side Friday evening, according to police.

The crash occurred around 5:20 p.m. at the intersection of West 150th Street and Lorain Avenue.

Investigators said a 2017 GMC Acadia, believed to have been stolen moments before the crash, was traveling westbound on Lorain Avenue at a high rate of speed. The vehicle changed lanes and struck two other vehicles also heading west.

Police said the GMC then left the roadway and hit a fire hydrant. One of the struck vehicles was pushed into a fourth vehicle, which crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a fifth vehicle.

Authorities said the suspect vehicle had been stolen from the 3700 block of West 130th Street shortly before the crash. Investigators believe the vehicle had been left running in a driveway when it was taken.

A 54-year-old man was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Three others were hospitalized, including a 22-year-old woman listed in critical condition, along with a 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old man who suffered unspecified injuries.

Police said a 22-year-old male suspect was also hospitalized. He is expected to face charges including aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault and grand theft of a motor vehicle once he is released from medical care.

The crash remains under investigation by Cleveland police.
