WISCONSIN — A 58-year-old woman was killed and a 64-year-old man suffered critical injuries in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday night in Greenville, according to the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to an automated iPhone crash detection alert shortly before 11:30 p.m. and located a minivan that had crashed into a tree along W. Wisconsin Avenue.
A preliminary investigation found the minivan was traveling east on W. Wisconsin Avenue when the driver lost control. The vehicle entered a ditch on the south side of the roadway, re-entered the road, crossed all lanes of traffic, and then went into the north ditch, where it struck a tree.
The 58-year-old woman was pronounced dead as a result of the crash. A 64-year-old man was transported to a hospital with critical injuries.
Authorities said both individuals are from Grand Chute, but their names have not been released.
Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
W. Wisconsin Avenue was closed for approximately five hours overnight while emergency crews worked at the scene and investigators processed evidence.
Assisting agencies included the Grand Chute Police Department, Greenville Fire and First Responders, Airport Fire Department, ThedaStar Medical Helicopter, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Outagamie County Highway Department.
