INDIANA — A motorcyclist died after a crash Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of the new U.S. 231 and Veterans Memorial Parkway in Tippecanoe County, according to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said multiple 911 calls were received reporting the crash around 2:30 p.m. on June 9.
According to investigators, a Honda CR-V was traveling southbound on the new U.S. 231 and was attempting to turn left onto Veterans Memorial Parkway when it crossed into the path of a motorcycle traveling northbound on U.S. 231.
“While crossing the northbound lanes of U.S. 231, the Honda CR-V failed to yield the right-of-way to a motorcycle traveling northbound on U.S. 231. The motorcycle and Honda CR-V collided in the intersection,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “Following the initial impact, the Honda CR-V came to rest in the northbound lanes of U.S. 231.”
Authorities said the motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle. The motorcycle then continued into an Acura TL that was stopped at a red light on Veterans Memorial Parkway.
The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The victim’s identity has not been released and will be announced by the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office after positive identification and notification of next of kin.
The drivers of the Honda CR-V and the Acura were not injured.
Investigators said drugs and alcohol are not currently suspected to have played a role in the crash, though toxicology testing will be conducted as part of the standard investigation.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information is asked to contact the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office at (765) 423-9321.
The crash remains under investigation.
