OHIO — A Lancaster man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning in Fairfield County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers from the Lancaster Post responded at approximately 2:43 a.m. to a crash on Horns Mill Road near Raver Court in Berne Township.

Investigators said a 2013 Fiat 500 was traveling north on Horns Mill Road when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck an embankment and overturned, ejecting the driver.

The driver was identified as Ian James McCoy, 36, of Lancaster. McCoy was transported by Berne Township EMS to Fairfield Medical Center before being transferred to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities said alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash. Troopers also reported that McCoy was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Berne Township Fire and EMS, Lancaster Fire and EMS, and Snider’s Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.
