NORTH CAROLINA — A 79-year-old woman was killed and another driver was critically injured in a head-on crash Wednesday morning in Johnston County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened around 11:15 a.m. on McLemore Road when a vehicle crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming vehicle on the driver’s side.
Authorities identified the driver who died as Patricia Ann Mailile, 79. She was pronounced dead as a result of the crash.
The other driver, identified as Jennifer Cameron, suffered serious injuries and was taken to WakeMed Hospital for treatment.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Cameron has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving left of center.
The investigation remains ongoing. Troopers said speed and alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the crash.
