One person dead following vehicle crash in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — A 65-year-old man died Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in southern Roxboro, according to the Roxboro Police Department.

Police said the crash happened around 4:15 p.m. in the 900 block of Hurdle Mills Road, also known as South Main Street.

Witnesses told officers the driver was traveling south of Durham Road when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck an unoccupied parked car.

According to police, the vehicle then crossed the road and hit an embankment.

Emergency crews arrived and found James Richmond, 65, of Roxboro, dead inside the vehicle. Authorities said Richmond was the only person in the car.

Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
