MICHIGAN — A 20-year-old Kalamazoo man was killed Friday evening in a crash after attempting to avoid oncoming traffic, according to Michigan State Police.
Troopers said the crash occurred near the intersection of 3rd Street and PQ Avenue when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. During the maneuver, the driver swerved to avoid oncoming traffic, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway.
The vehicle then struck a tree, authorities said.
Both the driver and a passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
The identities of those involved have not yet been released. The incident remains under investigation.
