KANSAS — A 19-year-old Hutchinson woman died Monday after the SUV she was riding in struck a parked semitrailer along a Reno County highway, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported around 4:20 p.m. Monday at K-96 and Trail West Road, about three miles south of South Hutchinson.
Authorities said a 2019 Dodge Durango was traveling northwest on K-96 when it veered onto the right shoulder and hit an unoccupied 1999 Freightliner semitrailer that was legally parked along the roadway.
Baylee Marie Flynn, 19, of Hutchinson, was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where she was pronounced dead. Troopers said Flynn was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Durango, Nathan Christopher Pfannenstiel, 19, of Hutchinson, suffered suspected minor injuries. The patrol said there was no record of him being transported to a hospital by ambulance. He also was wearing a seat belt, according to authorities.
The crash remains under investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
