One person dead following vehicle crash in Florida

FLORIDA — A violent crash shut down southbound lanes of the Palmetto Expressway in Doral on Friday morning, leaving at least one person dead and causing major traffic delays during rush hour.

According to WSVN, the crash occurred near the Northwest 36th Street exit around 8 a.m. and involved a pickup truck and an SUV, both of which sustained extensive damage.

Preliminary information indicates the pickup truck struck a barrier wall with significant force, breaking through it before entering the highway and colliding with the SUV.

First responders were on the scene, and a rotator tow truck was later seen working to separate the vehicles. A victim was observed covered with a yellow tarp near the crash site, though officials with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue have not confirmed the total number of people involved.

All southbound lanes of the expressway remain closed between Northwest 36th and 58th streets, with traffic being diverted at Northwest 58th Street. The closure has led to significant backups, extending as far as Interstate 75.

Authorities are urging drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. The crash remains under investigation.
