One person dead following two-vehicle crash in Mississippi

MISSISSIPPI — A two-vehicle crash north of New Augusta left one person dead and another injured Wednesday afternoon, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the crash involved an 18-wheeler log truck and an SUV. The accident happened around 2:43 p.m. on Highway 29 at the intersection of Daugherty Hill Road.

Officials confirmed one person died in the crash while another suffered injuries. Additional details about the victims have not been released.

Mississippi Highway Patrol said both lanes of the highway were blocked following the wreck, and drivers were advised to expect delays of at least two hours. Law enforcement officers remained on scene rerouting traffic around the area.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
