VIRGINIA — A truck driver was killed Wednesday morning in a crash involving two tractor-trailers that shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Caroline County, according to Virginia State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash around 4:51 a.m. near the 113-mile marker on I-95 South.
Investigators said a preliminary investigation found that one tractor-trailer rear-ended another tractor-trailer traveling on the interstate. The driver of the striking truck died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities have not released the identity of the driver pending notification of family members.
Virginia State Police said all southbound lanes of I-95 remained closed for an extended period Wednesday morning as crews investigated the crash and worked to clear the scene.
The closure is located between Exit 118 at Thornburg and Exit 110 at Ladysmith, about five miles south of Thornburg.
Motorists were urged to seek alternate routes, including Route 1 and Route 301/Route 207, to avoid major delays.
The crash remains under investigation.
