OHIO — One person is dead following a shooting near an apartment complex Saturday morning, according to Dayton police.
Officers and medics were dispatched just before 9:30 a.m. to the 600 block of Summit Square Drive after reports of a shooting, a Montgomery County Regional Dispatch sergeant said.
When officers arrived, they found a person who had been shot in a grassy area near one of the apartment buildings. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police secured the area with crime scene tape and called in homicide detectives to investigate. A crowd of residents gathered nearby as officers worked the scene.
Authorities said they have developed some leads but have not made any arrests at this time. It remains unclear what led up to the shooting or whether any weapons were recovered.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
