FLORIDA — A 24-year-old Lakeland man died after a motorcycle crash involving a semi-truck Wednesday evening, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said first responders were dispatched just before 7:45 p.m. to the 4000 block of Frontage Road South in Lakeland.

Investigators said the victim was operating a Yamaha motorcycle and was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

According to a preliminary investigation, the motorcyclist was exiting a parking lot onto an exit lane from Commerce Park when the motorcycle made slight contact with the rear of a semi-trailer.

The semi-truck was stopped in the exit lane and waiting to enter Frontage Road South, deputies said.

Authorities said the impact was minor but caused the rider to lose control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle and rider then struck a nearby curb.

The sheriff’s office said no charges are anticipated at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.
