OHIO — A 78-year-old woman was killed and another person seriously injured after a pickup truck and golf cart collided in Wayne County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened around 5:55 p.m. Monday on Zuercher Road, south of Baumgartner Road.
Investigators said a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound while a Tempo golf cart was heading northbound but is believed to have been in the southbound lane.
According to OSHP, the pickup truck driver swerved left in an attempt to avoid the golf cart, but the golf cart then moved back into the northbound lane, where the two vehicles collided.
Authorities identified the passenger in the golf cart as 78-year-old Katie Schmucker of Apple Creek. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers said the golf cart’s 80-year-old driver suffered serious injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, investigators said.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
