SOUTH CAROLINA — One person is dead and two others were taken to a local hospital following a partial drowning incident near Folly Beach Pier, according to city officials.
The incident happened Wednesday when a surfer discovered an unresponsive person in the water off the pier.
Officials said two other people initially attempted to help the unresponsive person but ended up swallowing water during the rescue effort and also needed assistance. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Charleston County EMS and Charleston County Parks have not yet released additional details about the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
