FLORIDA — A person riding a bicycle was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a Brightline train in Martin County, according to authorities.
The crash happened near the intersection of Southeast Dixie Highway and Southeast Monterey Road in Stuart, close to Woodman Field and the Martin County School District.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed one person died in the collision. Officials have not released the victim’s identity.
Brightline officials said the scene remains active and warned drivers and pedestrians to stay away from railroad tracks when trains are passing through the area.
The city of Stuart reported electricity outages connected to the incident and urged motorists to use alternate routes. Traffic delays were also reported near the crash scene.
It remains unclear exactly how the collision occurred. Authorities have not released additional details.
