ILLINOIS — A 36-year-old Illinois woman was killed Sunday night after a deer struck by another vehicle crashed through her windshield in Edgar County, according to authorities.
The Edgar County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Heidi N. Rothermel of Brocton.
Officials said the crash happened around 8:45 p.m. on Illinois Highway 49, about two and a half miles south of Brocton.
Investigators said a southbound Toyota Prius carrying three people struck a deer. The impact reportedly threw the deer into the path of Rothermel’s northbound GMC Acadia and through the windshield of her vehicle.
Authorities said Rothermel’s SUV continued a short distance before coming to rest in a field along the east side of the roadway.
Rothermel was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.
Officials said the three people inside the Toyota Prius were not injured and refused medical treatment at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
