
NORTH CAROLINA — A pedestrian was killed Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 95 southbound in Cumberland County, according to authorities.
The crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. near Doc Bennet Road. Crews from the Pearce’s Mill Fire Department, Cumberland County EMS and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
Officials said emergency crews found the victim lying in the southbound lanes of the interstate when they arrived. First responders performed CPR, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene after EMS arrived.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.
The crash temporarily shut down the southbound lanes of I-95 as crews worked at the scene and traffic was diverted. The roadway has since reopened.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
