VIRGINIA — A pedestrian was killed Monday night after being struck by a vehicle in Waynesboro, according to police.
The Waynesboro Police Department said the crash occurred around 8:43 p.m. in the 2000 block of Rosser Avenue. Officers, along with the Waynesboro Fire Department and the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, responded to reports of a pedestrian being hit by a car.
Emergency responders located an injured adult at the scene and began life-saving measures, but the individual was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Police said their initial investigation indicates the pedestrian had been encountered by officers earlier that day in connection with an unrelated call for service near the crash site.
The driver, identified as an 86-year-old man from Waynesboro, was not injured. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved as they work to notify next of kin.
The incident remains under investigation. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has information to contact the Waynesboro Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
