
FLORIDA — The St. Petersburg Police Department arrested a city garbage truck driver Saturday morning after he allegedly struck and killed a 49-year-old woman and then left the scene without stopping.
Officers responded to the fatal crash around 6:30 a.m. in an alley near 17 3rd Street North. According to police, the woman was lying across the alley when she was struck by the garbage truck.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released as authorities work to notify next of kin.
The driver, identified as Nathan Brown, 51, a City of St. Petersburg employee, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police said additional updates will be released as more information becomes available.
