FLORIDA — A West Palm Beach woman is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say she fired a handgun toward a family during a road rage dispute in Palm Springs.
According to the Palm Springs Police Department, officers responded June 7 to reports of a gunshot fired at the McKenna’s Place restaurant plaza.
Investigators said 38-year-old Jessica Piltz became involved in a confrontation after she was backing out of a parking space and began yelling at a family that was stopped in the roadway while transferring an infant and baby items between two vehicles.
Police said the argument continued in the parking lot despite the family repeatedly telling Piltz to leave. According to an arrest report, Piltz later stopped her vehicle near the exit onto Kirk Road and continued engaging with the family.
Multiple witnesses told investigators that Piltz made threats during the confrontation, including statements such as “come get it” and “you are not about that life, I am.”
According to police, witnesses reported seeing Piltz retrieve a handgun from her vehicle, insert a magazine, chamber a round and fire a single shot near the family. Authorities said witnesses also saw her waving the firearm before the shot was fired.
One of the victims told investigators they immediately focused on protecting their child after seeing Piltz armed and did not witness the gun being fired.
Piltz was arrested and is being held on a $100,000 bond. Police said she is facing five felony charges.
The investigation remains ongoing.
