
VIRGINIA — A Portsmouth man faces multiple firearm and drug charges after police responding to a disorderly conduct call allegedly discovered fentanyl, a handgun and other evidence during an investigation.
According to the Portsmouth Police Department, officers were called Thursday to the 600 block of Jefferson Street in the city’s Southside neighborhood. While investigating the complaint, officers reportedly observed a suspect concealing a handgun in his pants.
Police detained the suspect, identified as Michael Lee McGuire Jr., 50, and recovered the firearm. During a subsequent investigation, officers said they also seized 359 capsules containing fentanyl along with drug paraphernalia.
McGuire was charged with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs, carrying a concealed weapon, obstruction of justice and a domestic terrorism-related fentanyl charge.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
