MICHIGAN — A Kalamazoo man is behind bars after police say they seized about 50 pounds of crystal methamphetamine during a drug investigation in Berrien County.
According to Michigan State Police’s Southwest Enforcement Team, detectives conducting surveillance Thursday observed the 31-year-old suspect meeting with what investigators described as his supply source.
Police attempted to stop the suspect’s vehicle, but authorities said he fled, leading officers on a chase. Investigators said the pursuit ended after the vehicle struck stop sticks on U.S. 31 near Berrien Springs.
After the vehicle was disabled, police said the suspect got out and ran from the scene.
Authorities used K-9 units, drones and perimeter teams to search for the man for about eight hours before locating and arresting him Friday.
Investigators said approximately 50 pounds of crystal methamphetamine were found inside the suspect’s vehicle.
The man, whose name has not been released, is being held in the Berrien County Jail. He faces charges including fleeing and eluding police, resisting and obstructing police, and possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine.
Police also said the suspect had an outstanding warrant from Van Buren County tied to a separate fleeing and eluding case connected to the ongoing months-long drug investigation.
Authorities said the suspect was also out on bond for a gun-related arrest in Kent County at the time of his arrest.
