GEORGIA — A multi-agency drug investigation spanning Georgia and North Carolina led to the seizure of a significant amount of narcotics during a traffic stop in Pickens County, authorities said.
According to officials, task force officers from Union and Fannin counties were conducting an operation on April 17 when they intercepted drugs believed to be destined for distribution in North Georgia and Western North Carolina.
Deputies stopped a vehicle along Highway 515 in Pickens County driven by Daryl Gene Ankney of Norcross. During the stop, investigators seized approximately one pound of methamphetamine, several Schedule III controlled substances, and nearly $2,000 in cash.
Authorities said the investigation targeted an active drug trafficking network operating throughout the region and remains ongoing.
The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office credited Deputy King and K9 Storm for playing a key role in the bust. Officials said the K9 has become an essential asset in drug enforcement efforts, helping remove more than a kilogram of methamphetamine from communities in 2025, along with other illegal substances including cocaine, marijuana, THC, opium, and ketamine.
In addition to narcotics detection, K9 Storm has assisted with suspect tracking, search warrants, evidence recovery, and community outreach efforts, authorities said.
No additional details about charges or further arrests have been released at this time.
