FLORIDA — A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that sent a vehicle into a St. Petersburg home and sparked a fire earlier this week.

According to police, 37-year-old Kendric Dennard Stephens was arrested days after the crash and is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, driving while license suspended, canceled or revoked, and violation of probation.

The crash occurred just before 3 a.m. on June 8 along 14th Avenue South. Investigators said a Honda Accord traveled through the neighborhood, struck a tree and then crashed into a residence, igniting a fire.

Authorities said surveillance footage captured Stephens limping away from the scene after the crash. Police later identified him as the driver. Investigators also determined the Honda belonged to a family member and had not been stolen, contrary to initial reports.

The crash caused extensive damage, leaving part of the home’s front wall destroyed and the couple temporarily displaced.

Police have not released additional details about the investigation. The case remains ongoing.
