OHIO — A Bellefontaine man was arrested late Saturday night following a suspicious activity call at a local hotel that led to the discovery of drugs and multiple charges, according to the Bellefontaine Police Department.
Officers were dispatched to the Cobblestone Hotel just after 10:30 p.m. after a hotel employee reported two individuals in the parking lot acting erratically.
When officers arrived, they made contact with 36-year-old Michael Robinson and a female companion. The pair told police they had attempted to check into the hotel but were unable to verify a reservation.
During the interaction, officers discovered Robinson had an active warrant for his arrest. As police attempted to detain him, Robinson walked away despite repeated commands to stop and moved behind the hotel while holding a dog.
According to the report, the female told officers Robinson may have been attempting to provoke a “suicide by cop” situation.
Police said officers eventually confronted Robinson at taser point and deployed a Taser. Robinson briefly fled before falling and being taken into custody.
Authorities said Robinson resisted arrest, made threats toward officers and had to be physically restrained.
A search of Robinson’s person revealed drug paraphernalia, including a crack pipe. Due to complaints of injury, he was transported by the Bellefontaine Fire Department to Mary Rutan Hospital for evaluation.
After being released early Sunday morning, Robinson was taken to the Logan County Jail.
Police said a search of two backpacks associated with Robinson uncovered suspected crack cocaine and additional drug paraphernalia, including pipes and a scale. One substance tested positive for crack cocaine, with other materials sent for further analysis.
Investigators also determined Robinson was in violation of an active protection order involving the female, though she declined to pursue charges related to that violation.
Robinson is currently being held on a charge of possession of drugs. Additional charges are expected, including resisting arrest, obstructing official business, aggravated menacing, violation of a protection order and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The investigation remains ongoing.
