SOUTH CAROLINA — A Florence man is facing multiple drug and traffic charges after authorities said he led deputies on a high-speed chase along Interstate 95 before attempting to flee on foot.
According to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, Travis Michael Coward, 36, was charged with possession of controlled substances, possession of cocaine base, possession of fentanyl, second-offense trafficking cocaine, distribution of methamphetamine, failure to stop for a blue light and resisting arrest.
Deputies said the incident began May 7 when officers patrolling I-95 attempted to stop a vehicle traveling more than 100 mph.
Authorities said Coward refused to stop and led deputies on a pursuit at speeds exceeding 120 mph toward Timmonsville.
During the chase, investigators said Coward threw a black leather bag from the vehicle. Deputies later recovered the bag and determined it contained narcotics.
The sheriff’s office said deputies were eventually able to disable the vehicle, after which Coward allegedly attempted to run from the scene before being taken into custody.
Coward is being held without bond at the Florence County Detention Center.
